Sustainable building and skills training in the informal city
Strengths: This project engages the social (capacity building for a local NGO), ecological (environmental education and awareness), economic (skills training), and political (building a dialogue for a future government project) realities in the informal city in Rio de Janeiro.
Difficulties: Working in an informal environment with proximity to areas with crime and drug traffic poses unpredictable challenges for any project. The timeline is also slower than most projects, as there are many uncertainties in terms of funding and future government investment in the area, and the work is being done primarily on volunteer labor.
