Strengths: So far the project idea has been enthusiastically received by the NGO and people presented. They reflect that it is the first time that a Favela would establish a cultural facility that becomes attractive for other inhabitants of the city and tourist to visit and participate in the cultural work of a Favela. Once realized and successfully established, the infusion of cultural infrastructure in poor neighborhoods can be multiplied globally and spread.
Difficulties: We are involved in the fundraising process with a need of US$1.5M. In the last 2 yeas the political circumstances have changed twice we had to restart our efforts.
Extra information: The project needs to get permission from couple of authorities. Concerns have been raised that politics might take over the project and the ONG want to first secure the idea. The ONG has extended experience mobilizing and initiating projects such as the new school.
