Alternative Economy - Prototype Building
Strengths: Among the benefits of the project we mainly promote the meeting between the social economy and the university, promoting discussion about aware consumption and environmental education practice, and enable the run off the products made by cooperatives (making them economically viable and giving visibility to their work). Architecture students collaborated in the construction of green roof technique and learns about "environmental construction”.
Difficulties: The main drawback of this project was the difficulty to search resources to implement the project and the dependence of political decisions. These factors caused a delay between project and implementation that was very detrimental, resulting in negative changes on the original project and withdrawal of some cooperatives in participation.
Extra information: Other sustainable measures were made: cross ventilation of air, passive solar heating, water processing with filters and its respective reuse in the garden, voltaic plates and aerial deployment. The Project was performed inside the campus because of its practical proposal. The goal is to improve and expand this action to other campus and finally other universities, allowing the assistance and involvement respectively between more local cooperatives and more students.
