Slum urban renewal through acupuncture interventions

Strengths: - providing all exhisting houses with minimum facilities which are energetically self sustainable - creating a community feeling of reliance by involving the people in the renewal process - incresing of “community space” and more in general common public space to be used for economical activities - transforming the slum in energy self-sufficient neighbourhoods - generating a renewal urban process that can produce positive social and economical effects on the city scale

Difficulties: The main obstacles to the realization of the project might be: - the fact that people inhabiting the slum do not own the land; this implies that a process of appropriation of the ground should be started before the project can actually be realized - the feasibility of the project depends on the capability of finding economical parties willing to invest in such a project

Extra information: The accommodation module SANSAL is designed to face the emergencies conditions of informal urban settlements becoming the tool for an urban requalification strategy to be realized through “acupuncture intervetions”. The final goal is to produce a permanent effect on the urban pattern of the city, improving the living conditions of the people and setting going processes of economical and social development that might reduce the segregation of slum areas.
