urban center densification
Strengths: This project allows intervening in an existing city fabric in a bottom up urban planning logic. Small and local interventions, which stimulate existing or introduce new programmatic uses, formulate a new live civic network. This architectural elements that work as civic infrastructure, produced via a “mass customization” logic -like products- have three key components.
Difficulties: The difficulty in implementation would be the thorough analysis of the civic players and management of the information produced. Scenarios could facilitate in that direction to produce intelligent decisions. Also in existing densely built urban environments, where a larger structure than a low rise is required, would have the difficulty of finding a vacant. This could be faced with eliminating the chassis component and infusing the other two components in the existing vacant buildings
Extra information: The ease, the scale and economic way of production of these elements, allows them to be easily transformable or even replaceable if they fail. Also potential failure of the “one”, has a local affect only, without damaging the whole network.
